HISTORY OF BEE CREEK REALTY

John and Mary Stefka traveled from Waller County, Texas to the shores of Lake Travis in Western Travis County, in the 1970’s after selling their home. They built and opened a convenience store complete with gas pumps at the corner of Bee Creek Road and Highway 71 and that was the beginning of what is now Bee Creek Realty. They were simply amazed at the traffic into the store and the number of folks wanting to know how to find out information about real estate in the Lake Travis area. The inquiries led them to going back to school at the University of Texas at night and on weekends where John obtained his salesman license. Mary not only obtained her salesman license but also gained the required experience to obtain her Broker’s license.

So it was in 1978, at the site of the Bee Creek Pueblo (convenience store) that John and Mary formed Bee Creek Realty. And, it sits at the same location to this day. John and Mary worked side by side for the next 25 years at both the management of the store and the real estate office.

Mary was absolutely the Matriarch of Bee Creek until her death in August of 1999. They watched folks come and go to and from their weekend homes or their jobs; families grow, kids become adults and sold real estate to the most of them. Keeper of the keys, so to speak for the many friends they made over the years in the western part of Travis County, home to Lake Travis, Willie Nelson and the Pedernales River.

To this day, the company is served by Realtors that have been in the area for an accumulative 90+ years. It is said this group knows which way the snakes crawl at night.

In 2002, John decided to sell Bee Creek to Phil Dopson. His objective has been “to not change a thing,” as Mary had it all just right. We welcome you to Bee Creek!
